Questions we hear every day
Every case is different. These are general answers, not legal advice. For answers about your situation, talk to one of our attorneys.
More frequently asked questionsHow long do I have to file an injury claim in Louisiana?
For most injury claims from accidents on or after July 1, 2024, Louisiana law gives you two years to file suit. Accidents before that date generally had a one-year deadline, and some claims, like medical malpractice and workers’ compensation, have their own deadlines. Evidence disappears quickly, so it’s best to talk to a lawyer as soon as you can.
What if I was partly at fault for my accident?
You may still be able to recover. Under Louisiana’s comparative fault rules, your compensation is reduced by your share of the fault. For accidents on or after January 1, 2026, a person found 51% or more at fault can’t recover, so how fault is decided matters, and it’s one of the first things our team looks at.
Does it cost anything to talk to a lawyer?
No. Your case evaluation is free, and there’s no obligation to hire us. If we take your case and don’t win, you don’t pay.
What should I do after an accident?
Get medical care first, even if you feel okay. Report the accident, take photos, get witness names, and keep your medical records and bills. Be careful talking to the other side’s insurance company, and call us before you give a recorded statement.
Which practice area does my case fall under?
You don’t need to know. Many injuries involve more than one type of claim, like a work-truck crash that’s both an 18-wheeler case and a workers’ compensation case. Tell us what happened and we’ll explain your options.
