A True Courir de Mardi Gras Moment in Freetown

February 18, 2026

There are some Louisiana traditions you don’t just watch — you experience them.

This Lundi Gras, the office of Glenn Armentor Law Corporation had a front-row seat to one of Acadiana’s most colorful customs when members of the Freetown Lundi Gras Krewe came knocking — and singing — at our door.

They had one simple request:

A chicken for the gumbo.

When the Krewe Comes Calling

In true Courir de Mardi Gras fashion, masked riders and runners traveled from house to house through Freetown, singing, dancing, and playfully begging for ingredients to make a community gumbo. It’s a tradition deeply rooted in rural Louisiana culture — one that blends music, mischief, generosity, and community spirit.

And when the krewe asked Glenn if he had a chicken?

He did.

What happened next could only happen in Louisiana.

Yes — a rooster was tossed from the balcony to be caught by the crowd below. A little chaos. A lot of laughter. And a moment that perfectly captured the joy and authenticity of Courir de Mardi Gras.

Now that is a true Mardi Gras memory.
